Breaking In

A mother and her two kids are in grief over the loss of their grandpa who was brutally hit by a car. In the aftermath, they travel up to his mansion and plan to stay there as they try to sell his house. They are somewhat taken aback as they see all the high-tech security gear and installations. Like he was paranoid about something. When four men randomly show up in a heist attempt, they are surprised to see the owners daughter and grandkids there. When they explain why they are there, they take the kids hostage and the mother goes to extreme lengths to free them and get away from these bad guys who only want a mythical safe that contains 4 million dollars somewhere inside the house.
I'm going to be honest. I didn't go in with optimism. I knew this movie was going to be B-list at most and it delivered on that aspect.
Image result for Breaking In poster       The dialogue is super cringy at times. It was definitely one of the worst aspects of this movie. Also, it's not only the mother and the children that get screen time. The bad guys also get a heavy amount of screen time as well. Like, more than they probably should've gotten. This would've been fine except their dialogue is devoted to outsmarting the mother the entire time and could've been better utilized. Over time, I just got bored of their characters because they are super one-dimensional and deceitfully seen as more important than they actually turn out to be. One of them had hopes of having any character development, but they shy away from towards the end. Aside from the dialogue, the writing felt cliche and recycled. This movie follows its formula to a tee.
As far as any good qualities go, I would say that the acting from Gabrielle Union is pretty good. She definitely has potential, but this movie does not do her justice...and that's it.
This movie doesn't amount to much more than throwaway status and isn't worth the 10 bucks for admission. You might rent it on Redbox someday or watch it on Netflix, but I wouldn't even bother wasting money, even at the dollar theater, on this movie. 2/10
