Lady Bird review

Spoiler alert: I saw this film twice. If that is any indication as to how much I liked the movie than I could just give it its perfect 10 and call it a day, but I want to explain why this movie brought such an enjoyable experience to me.
Lady Bird         Lady Bird starts out in 2001, Sacramento, California with Christie "Lady Bird" McPherson (played by the wonderful Saiorsie Ronan). Lady Bird is in Catholic school because her parents felt it would be safer than the private school she was attending previously. She has 1 best friend, pink dyed hair, and a personality that exceeds her productivity. She wants to get away from Sacramento and attend an east coast college. Her mother doesn't think she'll get in, but her father is a bit more supportive. The relationship between Lady Bird's mother and her is conflicting. It switches off between being best friends and wanting to murder each other, but they love each other as blood relatives nonetheless. You can see why its hard for the mom to like her own daughter. She thinks that she is ungrateful and completely unaware of their financial situation, but you can also see why Lady Bird has a hard time liking her mom. The movie is mostly from Lady Bird's point of view, but the mother does have her moments.
One reason that i liked this film so much was the double narrative. Underneath Lady Bird's story is the story of her mom and creeps up on you until the end when you realize that Lady Bird should have showed more appreciation for her mom. Its a love letter to mothers. You feel for Lady Bird, but you yourself will want to tell her at times that she is reaching too high.
This movie is also a quiet observance on late adolescence. Lady Bird makes many risky decisions during her senior year and its because she has an itch to get out of her hometown and make her life interesting.
When the film ended, it was a bit sudden. I wanted to keep following these characters and see where their lives went. I was invested. This is because the film is incredibly relatable. I see things about myself in this movie and I know that many others have experienced this as well. This is why, in my opinion, it is one of the most perfect films of the year. 10/10
